Total Hip Replacement
Total hip replacement (THR), or Total hip arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure aimed at relieving pain and restoring function in a damaged or arthritic hip joint which may be secondary to fracture neck femur/ failed intertrochanteric fractures, Avascular Necrosis of Head of femur (AVN), infections, etc. During this surgery, the damaged hip joint's components are replaced with artificial implants designed to mimic the natural joint's movement. These components consist of a metal or ceramic ball attached to a metal stem, which is inserted into the femur (thigh bone), and a socket made of metal, plastic, or ceramic, which is placed in the pelvis. These artificial parts work together to provide smooth and pain-free hip movement. While risks and complications are possible, this surgery is highly effective in improving hip joint pain and function, allowing patients to enjoy a better quality of life. Dr Abhishek Jaroli will discuss the procedure's benefits and risks with you to help you out take this difficult decision.
