It's a more conservative option than a total knee replacement but can be done when only one portion of the knee is affected.During the surgery, the damaged or arthritic section of the knee joint is replaced with a prosthetic component, which includes a metal implant and a plastic spacer. Unlike total knee replacement, partial knee replacement preserves healthy bone and cartilage in the unaffected parts of the knee.
